Bottom Protect(TM) 8000A / 8000B High Build Epoxy Primer is a heavy duty 3:1 epoxy coating that prevents water absorption and blistering of your fiberglass hull. SUGGESTED USES: Prevention and repair of gelcoat blistering COLORS: Bottom Protect(TM) 8000A / 8000B Gray FINISH: Matte VEHICLE TYPE: Epoxy Resin SOLVENT TYPE: High Flash Naphtha VOC: 330 grams / liter SOLIDS BY WEIGHT: 50% WEIGHT PER GALLON: 11 lbs. per gallon RECOMMENDED DRY FILM: 10.0 mils COVERAGE: Theoretical coverage at two mils dry is 400 square feet per gallon, and recommended thickness of 10 mils dry would require 4-5 full coats. Material losses during mixing and application will vary and must be taken into consideration. VISCOSITY AT 75degF (24degC): 70-80 KU AVERAGE DRY TIME 75degF (23deg C): Dries to touch in 2 hours. Faster dry times in temperatures over 75deg degrees F, and slower dry times in temperatures cooler than 75deg degrees F. Can recoat with Bottom Protect Primer with self in 2 hours to 48 hours. After 48 hours, you MUST sand with 80 grit sandpaper before recoating with another coat of Bottom Protect Primer. When overcoating with antifouling, allow 2 hours minimum to 4 hours maximum. Faster dry times in temperatures over 75deg degrees F, and slower dry times in temperatures cooler than 75deg degrees F. After 4 hours, you MUST sand with 80 grit sandpaper before application of antifouling paint, or apply another coat of Bottom Protect Primer and overcoat with the appropriate antifouling paint within the 2-4 hour over coat window. VERY IMPORTANT: Application of antifouling over Bottom Protect Primer is critical. Antifouling may be applied directly over Bottom Protect Primer by using the "thumb print" method. Touch the Bottom Protect Primer film with your thumb - if the paint does not get on your thumb, but is tacky and you can make a thumb print, you are properly in the "overcoat window." You can then apply antifouling paint. If the paint gets on your thumb, it is too soon to recoat with antifouling paint. If you can't leave a thumb print, you have missed the "overcoat window" & MUST sand with 80 grit sandpaper or apply another coat of Bottom Protect Primer and then recoat as above.. For Vinyl antifouling overcoat times, contact Blue Water directly. WHEN OVERCOATING BOTTOM PROTECT SEALER: Apply Bottom Protect Sealer per label directions. Dries to touch in 5 hours. After last coat of Bottom Protect Sealer, wash surface thoroughly with fresh water, wait 12 hours minimum, sand surface with 80 grit paper, wipe surface with tack cloth, apply first coat of Bottom Protect Primer. RECOMMENDED REDUCER: Reduce with 974 Reducer as needed for proper flow and performance, 10% maximum. RECOMMENDED CLEAN UP: 974 Reducer RECOMMENDED FINISH: Ablative antifoulings SURFACE PREPARATION: BARE FIBERGLASS: Degrease by wiping with a rag soaked in 973 Dewaxer. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Wipe with 973 Dewaxer. Over Bottom Protect(TM) 8000A / 8000B: Wash with soap and water. Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Wipe with 973 Dewaxer. BARE METAL: Surface should be blasted to bright metal. Remove all blast or sanding residue using a clean air line and sweeping with a clean brush or broom. Vacuum clean for best results. Apply primer within 1 hour of metal preparation. If blasting is not possible (or if more than 2 hours has passed since blasting) sand or grind with coarse emery cloth and apply 973 Dewaxer prior to Bottom Protect(TM) 8000A / 8000B. APPLICATION: Apply enough Bottom Protect(TM) 8000A / 8000B to reach a final Dry Film Thickness of 10mils. This usually takes 4-5 coats but the amount of paint ismore important than the number of coats. Airless Spray Pressure: 165 bar/2400 psi Tip Size: 0.44-0.53 mm/17-21 thou.
